Getting Tickets FAQ

How do I get tickets for the 2009 inaugural ceremony?

Tickets to the inaugural swearing-in ceremony may be provided by members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.  Use the two search links below to find your local officials and ask whether any tickets are available or to have your name put on a waiting list until tickets become available. Please note that a number of offices stopped taking additional names for ticket requests in early December.

Please be aware of tickets scams and know how to avoid them.

How much do tickets for the swearing-in ceremony cost?

Congressional offices distribute tickets free of charge.

How do I get tickets for one of the official inaugural balls?

Tickets for a number of the "official" balls for the 2009 Presidential Inauguration are by invitation only, according to the Presidential Inaugural Committee. Tickets to some of the events (e.g. Neighborhood Ball) are given out according to a system adopted by the Presidential Inaugural Committee in conjunction with other organizations. Unfortunately, this means that tickets to these events are often very difficult to purchase or acquire from the PIC.

How much do tickets cost for the official balls?

When bought from the Presidential Inaugural Committee, prices for official inaugural balls are generally $75 to $150.

If I did not receive an official invitation to one of the official balls, can I still get tickets?

People who had the opportunity to buy tickets from the Presidential Inaugural Committee often sell their tickets to the general public, so you may be able to get tickets this way.  Some of these tickets are sold through places like Ebay, while others are sold through companies that specialize in secondary market ticket sales, such as StubHub.com and GreatSeats.

Please note that tickets bought on the secondary market are frequently much more expensive to purchase than tickets bought directly from the PIC.

How do I get tickets for one of the unofficial inaugural balls?

Tickets for the "unofficial" balls, such as those sponsored by State Societies, take place around the time of the inaugural ceremony and are normally available through their sponsoring organizations. Links and information to these organizations will be presented on this web site as they become available. To order tickets, you will need to visit the web site of the sponsoring organization or contact one of the organizers. If events are sold out, tickets often become available on sites like Ebay or StubHub.com or GreatSeats.

How much do tickets cost for the unofficial balls?

The prices vary, but many fall in the $100-$500 range.

Can I order tickets to inaugural events through Presidential-Inauguration.com?

Presidential-Inauguration.com does not handle or sell any ball tickets. Links to some sponsoring organizations or other sellers are included on this site through which you may purchase tickets.

What does "TBA" mean in the listings of official and unofficial balls or other inaugural events?

The use of "TBA" (To Be Announced) means that particular event information has not been supplied by the event organizer or it is unknown at this time.  If you are in need of information (e.g. attire for a ball) which is not on Presidential-Inauguration.com, please contact the organizer directly.

Where can I get media passes/credentials?

Credentials are available by contacting the Senate departments for Radio/TV, daily print, periodicals and photography.
